IPTV home-connectivity solutions provider, Entone (note: the company recently announced that it had integrated Vudu's broadband video entertainment services with its "next-generation" media hubs, in order to allow its telco customers, many of which are smaller operators lacking the ability to offer their own VOD service, to supplement their linear-TV and DVR offerings with an over-the-top VOD service featuring Vudu's library of around 14,000 titles--see article posted on itvt.com, May 5th), said Wednesday that its Hydra HD IP video gateway has been selected by Valley TeleCom Group for its IPTV service roll-out. The latter offers a triple-play service package to customers in Arizona and New Mexico. "We have always been proud of our commitment to providing high-quality communications services to our local communities," Valley TeleCom COO, Jeremy Graves, said in a prepared statement. "Hydra enables us to offer advanced IPTV services without extensive in-home rewiring, thus significantly lowering our operational costs and improving the experience for our customers."
According to Entone, the Hydra HD IP video gateway will allow Valley TeleCom to distribute video signals throughout subscribers' homes using existing coax cabling and without requiring a separate set-top box at each television. The company bills this capability as improving the business case for IPTV by reducing installation costs and eliminating the complexities associated with IP video deployment.
