New York-area MSO, Cablevision, announced Monday that it has added a new video-on-demand category, International Movies On Demand, to its iO TV digital cable platform. The new category allows viewers to rent Spanish/Latin American, European and Bollywood films, complete with English subtitles, for $4.95 each. According to Cablevision, its offerings include new releases, festival winners and classic titles, and will be refreshed on a monthly basis. "Cablevision is pleased to now offer International Movies On Demand as part of our VOD offering, a valuable addition to the multitude of services available to our international customers," Gary Schanman, Cablevision's SVP of video product management, said in prepared statement. "The addition of hit foreign films from Europe, Spain and Latin America, and South Asia demonstrates Cablevision's continued commitment to provide our customers with unique content that meets their programming needs." The International Movies On Demand service is accessed via channel 500 of the Cablevision EPG or via iO TV's Enhanced TV menu. Cablevision, which serves a region with a large foreign-born population, also offers 12 separate in-language foreign programming packages: iO en espanol, iO South Asian, iO Russian, iO Filipino, iO Korean, iO Chinese, iO Japanese, iO Polish, iO Italian, iO French, iO Portuguese and iO Brazil.
