Silicon Valley-based IPTV middleware provider, Minerva Networks, said Tuesday that its flagship iTVManager platform is now supporting the largest IPTV deployments in Canada and Latin America--by Western Canadian telco, Telus, and Chilean telco, Telefonica del Sur, respectively. Minerva bills iTVManager as a comprehensive software platform for next-generation IP-connected TV services, including HDTV, PVR, whole home PVR, and VOD. According to the company, the platform also offers a robust set of API's that allow third-party developers to easily integrate and deploy interactive TV communications and entertainment applications.
Telus's and Telefonica del Sur's Minerva-powered IPTV services, which are part of triple-play offerings provided by the two telcos, offer a range of linear TV channels, commercial-free radio, HDTV, PVR, VOD, and TV-based caller-ID, among other services. According to Minerva, Telus and Telefonica del Sur are installing a combined total of over 25,000 new IPTV set-top boxes every month. "Minerva's iTVManager combines a complete set of intuitive subscriber applications with a highly scalable backoffice service management platform," Telefonica del Sur CEO, Jorge Atton, said in a prepared statement. "By working with Minerva, we were able to scale our services faster than we expected and within budget." Added Telus CTO, Ibrahim Gedeon: "We are leveraging the Minerva platform to deliver next-generation TV services to a rapidly growing subscriber base. Minerva iTVManager provides the reliability and flexibility we need to enable differentiating services."
