Hulu, the broadband video venture co-owned by NBC, Fox, and ABC/Disney (note: for more on Disney's recent acquisition of an equity stake in the venture, see the article posted on itvt.com April 30th), announced Thursday that at 9:00PM Eastern on June 1st, it will present its first ever live concert: a performance by the Dave Matthews Band at the Beacon Theatre in New York City (note: in the past, Hulu has offered live streaming coverage of the New Year's celebration in Times Square, the presidential debates and inauguration, and a number of President Obama's speeches). Following its exclusive free live stream of the concert, Hulu says, it will make it available on-demand.
Hulu's live streaming presentation of the concert will take place on the eve of the release of "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," the Dave Matthews Band's first studio album in four years. According to Hulu, the presentation is one of a number of elements of a partnership with the band that represents its first-ever music partnership: starting May 28th and leading up to the live concert, it plans to roll out a series of content offerings from the band, including music videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and an exclusive presentation of "Scenes from Big Whiskey," a documentary about the making of the new album. It also says it will present the band's upcoming performances on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and "Today."
