--Allows Users to Embed Entire Series on their Personal Web Sites
Hulu, the broadband video venture co-owned by NBC, Fox, and ABC/Disney (note: for more on Disney's recent acquisition of an equity stake in the venture, see the article posted on itvt.com April 30th), has released an embeddable product called the Video Panel widget. According to the company, the new widget is customizable, offers search functionality and allows users to post an entire series or group of videos to their personal Web sites, social network profile pages or blogs: the widget "updates automatically so you can easily keep track of recently added episodes and most popular clips," Hulu says. When visitors to a site select a video from the panel, they are linked back to Hulu.com to watch it. A "Webmaster version" of the new widget allows site visitors to watch content directly on the site in which it is embedded, via an integrated JavaScript-based pop-up player. Hulu says is also offering owners of "more advanced Web sites" the ability to configure the Video Panel widget's look-and-feel and available content (e.g. show, channel, network, keyword, etc.), via a new Video Panel Designer.
Embed code for the Video Panel widget can be found at hulu.com/about/distrogallery, or accessed from a new "widgets tab" that is available on any of Hulu's show or video pages.
