At the Next09 conference in Hamburg, Germany Wednesday, broadband video publishing solutions provider, Brightcove, announced deals with two more German media companies: Discovery Networks Germany and sevenload. Brightcove, which opened a German office in Hamburg late last year, has previously announced deals with OMS, an online sales and marketing network for around 60 German regional newspapers; German magazine publisher, Gruner + Jahr; and German sports portal, Spox.com.
Discovery Networks Germany (DNG) plans to use Brightcove's platform to publish and distribute advertising-supported long- and short-form video across its DMAX.de Web property. Brightcove, which has a longstanding relationship in place with Discovery Communications in the US, says it will enable the company's German arm to showcase promotional clips as well as full-length programming, including archived episodes of past seasons of shows, episodes of currently airing or recently aired shows (for catch-up TV purposes), and exclusive online premieres of episodes from select shows prior to their TV broadcast.
According to Brightcove, the main focus of DNG's new broadband video initiatives is the "Videotheke" section on DMAX.de, which will use the Brightcove platform to offer full episodes of such shows as "Die Ludolfs," "Der Checker" and "Dmotor." Brightcove says that its platform's "ease of integration" with advertising networks and servers will enable DNG to create additional revenue streams by selling ads against its broadband video content. DNG is also planning to make DMAX video content available to partner sites (including sevenload), in order to generate more advertising inventory and revenues to complement revenues from traditional TV advertising.
The new deal with sevenload, meanwhile, which operates a social media network for sharing photos, personal video and Web TV, will allow Brightcove customers to distribute broadband video content to sevenload's social media platform, Brightcove says. The company claims that the deal will enable new monetization opportunities for Brightcove customers, in that distribution of their content on sevenload will allow them to expand their advertising inventory. According to Brightcove, Spox.com is already using its platform to distribute content on sevenload.
