QuickPlay Media has launched a subscription-based VOD service for the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones. Dubbed PrimeTime2Go, the service offers full-length recent episodes of primetime and premium shows from a line-up of content partners that includes ABC, CBS, NBC Universal, The CW, ABC Family, Animal Planet, Bravo, Discovery, Disney Channel, Disney XD, ESPN, Sci Fi and USA. It is accessed via an application that can be downloaded from BlackBerry's BlackBerry App World service and is priced at $7.99 per month.
The new service was demo'd at last month's CTIA Wireless show. "After receiving a phenomenal response to our demonstration at last month's CTIA Wireless event, we are very excited that consumers can now experience the PrimeTime2Go service for themselves," QuickPlay Media president and CEO, Wayne Purboo, said in a prepared statement. "With its growing library of the most engaging content from leading networks, customer-friendly user interface and exceptional high-quality viewing experience, the service truly delivers mobile video worth watching."
According to QuickPlay Media, once users of the new service have selected a program, it is downloaded in the background over Wi-Fi, and can then be watched at any time until its pre-set viewing window expires. Features of the service include "My Series," which enables users to have new episodes of their favorite series automatically downloaded to their smartphones shortly after their original broadcast date, and "Pause and Resume," which enables users to pause a program, exit the application, and then, upon re-entering the app, resume viewing from where they left off.
