Warner Bros. announced Monday that Dutch cable operator, Ziggo, has launched its Warner TV-branded SVOD service (offers drama, comedy and sci-fi television series, as well as a selection of "blockbuster" movies). The company also says that its deal with Ziggo will give the latter's customers the option of renting Warner Bros. feature films day-and-date with their DVD release.
Under the terms of the deal, Warner TV will offer 150 movies, 600 TV episodes and 100 hours of animation each year on Ziggo's VOD platform, including such shows as "Friends" and "ER" and such movies as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "The Shining" and "The Matrix." Warner Bros. movies that will be available on the platform on the same day as their DVD release include "RocknRolla," "Yes Man" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," as well as a range of catalog and direct-to-video titles. Warner Bros. says that it will begin offering HD movies on Ziggo's VOD platform later in the year. "We are pleased to be licensing our programming for exhibition on the Warner TV service in the Netherlands and to be working closely with Ziggo to give Dutch consumers a legal and reliable way to watch our television and film programming at their convenience, on-demand," Jeffrey Schlesinger, president of Warner Bros. International Television, said in a prepared statement. Added Jaap Brujnen, managing director of Warner Home Video, Benelux: "We remain committed to finding new and innovative ways to make our entertainment available to the broadest possible audience, and so we are delighted to be working with Ziggo to allow many more consumers in the Netherlands to watch our TV and movie content when and how they want." The new deal represents Warner Bros.' first launch of the Warner TV service in the Netherlands. It has previously launched it with Top Up TV, Tiscali, Virgin Media and BT Vision in the UK; with FastWeb in Italy; with Maxdome in Germany; with On Demand Deutschland in Austria; with GyaO in Japan; and with Free in France.
