--Now Offers a Continuous Play Feature
CBS Interactive announced Tuesday the addition of a continuous play function to its TV.com application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, and also said that the app--which was released in February--has already been downloaded over a million times.
The company bills the TV.com iPhone/iPod Touch app, which complements the eponymous online video service, as offering viewers quick and easy access to shows across all networks with the option of creating custom video feeds based on TV shows, channels and topics (note: the personalized feeds proactively recommend content, based on user-selected keywords and past viewing history). It says that the app's new continuous play feature lets viewers watch full episodes of shows that have been divided into "chapters," without having to constantly click to the next chapter: at the end of each chapter, the next chapter in the sequence begins automatically. CBS Interactive also says that the app offers viewers "easy control of their viewing experience" via player controls on its video info screen: viewers can start an episode at any chapter, the company says, or skip ahead using the fast-forward button in the player controls. "We're delighted to have reached the one million downloads milestone and one of the great things about an app for iPhone and iPod Touch is the real-time feedback," Jeff Sellinger, EVP and general manager of CBS Mobile, said in a prepared statement. "People love to read and write reviews. It gives us a great opportunity to take that feedback and continually improve the product and we're sure that users will love this new version of the TV.com app." CBS Interactive also says that new content is available for the application (via WiFi), including full episodes of "Harper's Island," "Rules of Engagement" and "60 Minutes," as well as "Melrose Place," "Family Ties," and various other titles from the CBS television library
