NBC Says its NBC Rewind Player Has Served 1 Billion+ Full-Episode Streams

US broadcast network, NBC, announced Thursday that its NBC Rewind streaming video player has delivered over a billion full episode streams over the past 18 months (note: the network also offers an extensive array of full-length programming on Hulu). "Users are consistently and reliably using our Rewind player to catch up on their favorite shows and discover new ones," Stephen Andrade, NBC's SVP of digital development and general manager of NBC.com, said in a prepared statement. "Clearly, with over a billion 'served,' this has become a mainstream behavior."

In addition, NBC says, NBC.com's mobile Web site served 2.4 million video streams in Q1, 2009--more than the total number of streams it served in all of 2008; and Q1, 2009 was the mobile site's best quarter yet, seeing it generate 24 million page views, a 64% increase over Q4, 2008. NBC also says that NBC.com's widgets generated over 43 million streams between January, 2008 and March, 2009; and that, during the season to date (i.e., September, 2008 through March, 2009), widget streams accounted for 19% of total short-form video streams served on NBC.com, and increased the overall reach of the site by an average of 43% per month in Q4, 2008 alone.
