Oberon Media, the multiplatform casual games company which last year acquired interactive TV games company, PixelPlay, and which recently secured a $20 million investment from the Infinity I-China fund (see article in this issue), has been tapped by premium programmer, Showtime, to develop an interactive TV game on the DISH Network satellite TV platform that promotes Showtime's The Movie Channel (TMC). Dubbed "The Movie Channel Trivia Game" and launched on December 11th, the new game invites viewers to test their movie knowledge and compete against other viewers across the country. It presents them with a series of different trivia challenges--including multiple-choice questions and image puzzles--that culminate in a 60-second speed round. According to Oberon Media, the game tests viewers' movie knowledge in a "fun and irreverent" way while simultaneously promoting movies that are currently airing on TMC. Once viewers have finished the game, they also have the opportunity to order TMC using their remote control. According to an Oberon spokesperson who talked to [itvt], the new game is "the first-ever ITV game with an in-game promotion to upsell a subscription service."
