--Organizes Music Choice Video On Demand Awards

Multiplatform music programmer, Music Choice (note: the company is a joint venture between subsidiaries of Microsoft, Motorola, Sony Corporation of America and EMI Music, and US cable operators, Comcast, Cox and Time Warner Cable) has launched new interactive programming blocks--entitled "ShowOff"--on its Hit List, Alternative, Today's Country, Musica Urbana and Hip-Hop and R&B music channels. Viewers who tune into those channels between 3:00PM and 10:00PM Eastern, Mondays through Fridays, can use their mobile phones, email, AOL Instant Messager or a dedicated "ShowOff" Web page to send in photo and text shout-outs (dubbed "ShowOffs") for broadcast over those channels' music programming. "ShowOff is another example of our commitment to launching products that enhance the viewing experience on our music channels," Damon Williams, Music Choice's VP of programming, said in a prepared statement. "With the addition of interactivity, our viewers are highly engaged with our screen while listening to our Music Choice channels. Everyone has a chance to 'Be On TV' with 'ShowOff.'"
In other Music Choice news: The company is conducting a VOD promotion called "Most Demanded--The Music Choice Video On Demand Awards," which it bills as "the first-ever video-on-demand awards show." The winners of the awards were determined by the number of VOD orders their music videos and programming specials generated on Music Choice's service over the past year; the awards were then presented at the "Most Demanded" show, which was hosted by Jessica and Janelle Martinez of Prima J, and which is available in four parts on Music Choice's VOD service through the end of the month. According to the company, the single most popular artist or band on its VOD service over the past year was Chris Brown, who apparently generated 43 million orders.
