Entone, a company which specializes in IPTV home connectivity solutions and which recently secured $14.5 million in a Series B funding round (see [itvt] Issue 8.06 Part 1), says that its Hydra IP video gateway has been selected by Interstate Telecommunications Cooperative (ITC) for its IPTV roll-out. ITC, which offers services in South Dakota and Minnesota, is now offering a triple-play bundle of voice, video and data services over the Hydra IP. "The installation costs represent a major focal point in the business case for delivering IPTV services," ITC general manager, Jerry Heiberger, said in a prepared statement. "Entone's Hydra IP video gateway has enabled us to significantly increase the productivity of our installation teams and reduced the cost per home for deploying our triple-play services, while providing our users a true connected home experience."
The Hydra HD IP video gateway is part of Entone's Connected Home product suite that the company bills as eliminating the need for multiple set-top boxes or new wiring in order to deliver IPTV services throughout a home (it can deliver multiple video streams over a single DSL or Ethernet connection using in-home coax cabling, the company says). According to the company, it supports whole-home networking technologies, such as HomePNA, HomePlug and 802.11n, which enable high-speed delivery of rich media throughout the home using existing coax wiring, and which are therefore frequently touted as improving the economics of offering IPTV services by reducing installation costs and eliminating complexities associated with IP video deployment.
