--Brook Becomes Chairman of TV Production Subsidiary, Optimistic Media
Optimistic Entertainment--a UK-based interactive TV and media investment company co-founded by David Brook, who was previously director of strategy and development at Channel 4, and Jasper Smith, who previously co-founded and was CEO of Static2358, the company which was behind the PlayJam interactive TV games channel, and which was sold to OpenTV in 2001 for $68 million--has announced new roles for its co-founders. Brook has stepped down as CEO of Optimistic Entertainment and has taken on the role of chairman of Optimistic Media, the company's TV and media production subsidiary, which it claims is experiencing rapid growth (note: the company has secured long-term production contracts with MTV in the UK, TF1 in France, and GSN in the US). He will remain on Optimistic Entertainment's board as a non-executive director, and will be tasked with overseeing Optimistic Media's "creative development." Smith, meanwhile, will serve as Optimistic Entertainment's CEO, concurrently with his role as that company's executive chairman. "I am delighted that David has agreed to lead Optimistic Media Ltd. as chairman," Smith said in a prepared statement. "I believe his comprehensive knowledge of the media sector and its participants will help the company diversify and grow its portfolio of content and services. I look forward to assuming a new role within the group and will continue to seek to expand the company once we have achieved profitability at subsidiary level."
