On May 11th, the BBC plans to broadcast (on BBC One) "Test the Nation: the National IQ Test," a special interactive program produced by Talent Television in association with Dutch company, Eyeworks. The show will offer a studio audience and home viewers the chance to determine their Intelligence Quotient (IQ). During the live broadcast, hosts Anne Robinson (of "Weakest Link") and Phillip Schofield will deliver 70 questions (testing language, memory, logic, arithmetic, and perception skills) to the 300- strong studio audience, which consists of 6 different groups-identical twins, builders, teachers, blondes, pub owners, and students-as well as a smattering of celebrities. The studio audience will answer the questions via keypads located by their seats, while an ITV app will allow home viewers (after entering their age and sex on screen) to answer the same questions. Home viewers can also take the test online, using a synchronized, 2-screen Flash application. A BBC spokesperson told [itvt] that the ITV app will calculate home viewers' scores in the set-top box, and that no data will be sent back to a central server. However, the scores of the online participants and of the studio audience will be aggregated and revealed in the 2nd half of the show. The show's multiple-choice questions were prepared by psychologist, Dr. Colin Cooper, of Queen's University, Belfast, who is also a fellow of the British Psychological Society. Each question features 4 possible answers and must be answered within a time limit. ITV viewers are being warned that if they change channels during the test, their scores will be lost.
