The long-anticipated deployment of the Sony-owned, high-end gateway set-top box (DHGM55CV) on Cablevision’s cable network in the New York area finally began September 28th. Service is being offered to residents in western Long Island (Nassau County and some areas of Suffolk County) first. What makes this news so exciting is that the new service – called “iO” or “Interactive Optimum” – is the most robust suite of offerings anywhere (including the UK), and is being offered now, rather than in small increments. It includes walled gardens, digital channels, a photo display service, multiple-camera apps, headend-driven VOD, video magazine series, an EPG, and email.
