About 150 people, representing all kinds of companies from within the San Francisco Bay Area
and beyond, attended the first [itvt] Summer Party 2001 in San
Francisco. The event was held at the beautiful broadcast studios
of PBS affiliate, KQED, in the Mission District. Executives,
producers, technologists, as well as representatives from the
sponsors of the event (KQED, Kobalt Interactive, TiVo, AOLTV,
and Mighty Assembly) enjoyed a plentiful supply of wine, shrimp,
sushi, smoked salmon, fruit, pate, baklava, vegetables, and other
savory Mediterranean delicacies. As a special service to attendees,
Larry Reid, senior director/chief broadcast and technology officer
of KQED, led tours around the studios to see the digital transition
in action. (Note: Public broadcasters are currently in the midst of
funding or actually building out their studios to broadcast the
digital signal; so this was a great opportunity to see things first
hand.)
Later in the evening those that put their names
down to play the first TV & ITV Trivia Challenge Game Show teams were called to
participate. Prizes offered were a Sony TiVo set-top
box with a 30-hour digital hard drive, 2 AOLTV boxes from Philips,
and various products donated by RespondTV (t-shirts, umbrellas),
KQED (mugs, totebags), and nicely styled glasses from Mighty
Assembly. A total of 32 people who signed up earlier that evening
were partitioned into eight teams of four. Seven of those teams were
made up of people from various companies, though MetaTV formed
a spirited team of its own. Please click above to see various photos
from the evening.
