Since February 3rd, [itvt] Daily News has been on hiatus, while the [itvt] editorial team produced the TV of Tomorrow Show 2010--and then took a few days off to recover. This is the eighth of eight round-up articles, in which we are covering some of the more significant developments in the multiplatform/interactive TV space that took place during our hiatus:
According to a report Tuesday by All Things Digital's Peter Kafka, over-the-top-TV specialist, Vudu, is in "meaningful" acquisition discussions with a potential buyer, believed to be Wal-Mart. Kafka's report cited unnamed sources, and added that Vudu executives had "declined to comment" and that Wal-Mart's press center had not answered his inquiries as his report went to press.
--Vudu Streaming Movie Service Deployed by LG, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Sanyo, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio
Vudu, a company hitherto best known for its over-the-top streaming video service, the Vudu Streaming Movie Service, on Wednesday announced Vudu Apps, a platform for the delivery of Internet applications and services to home theaters, HDTV's and Blu-ray Disc players (BDP's). The company also said that Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Sanyo, Sharp and Toshiba America Consumer Products have adopted Vudu Apps as their platform for the delivery of Internet services directly to their connected HDTV's and that Toshiba will also integrate the platform into its line of connected BDP's.
Over-the-top-TV specialist, Vudu (note: the company claims to have relationships in place with every major US movie studio and over 50 independent studios, enabling its OTT service to offer over 15,000 on-demand movies and TV episodes, of which around 1,800 are available in HD; the service is delivered via the company's 1080p-enabled Vudu BX100, Vudu XL and Vudu XL2 set-tops, which it says support native instant-start HD, as well as Vudu's own HDX format, and "automatically upscale" standard-resolution video), announced Thursday that its service will be the first to offer HD titles from Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainm
--Joint Solution Enables Smaller Telcos to Offer VOD --Round-Up of Recent News from Entone
IPTV home-connectivity solutions provider, Entone, said Tuesday that it has integrated Vudu's broadband video entertainment services with its "next-generation" media hubs.
