But Sling users can’t yet share any images or video clips from the shows they are watching with Facebook friends. Engadget has more.

[itvt]'s daily news coverage went on hiatus October 18th in order to allow our editorial staff to work full time on TVOT NYC Intensive. This issue contains a round-up of some of the major interactive TV-related news stories that have broken since then. Due to the volume of news we are covering in this issue, our summaries of each item are somewhat more abbreviated than usual (note: extensive background information on most of the companies and technologies covered in this issue can be found by using itvt.com's search functionality). We apologize for any inconvenience to our readers.
Content protection and video optimization specialist, Widevine, said Tuesday that EchoStar's EchoStar Technologies and Sling Media subsidiaries have selected its DRM solution for the protection of content delivered by EchoStar's SlingLoaded set-top boxes (i.e. set-tops equipped with Sling Media's TV placeshifting technology, which allows users to watch and control their home TV remotely via desktop PC, Mac, laptop and a range of smartphones).

Due to the volume of news generated by last week's Consumer Electronics Show, and because the [itvt] editorial team is busy working on The TV of Tomorrow Show (March 3rd-4th in San Francisco), we are covering a number of stories in this issue in summary form:
--App's 3G Capability Disabled Due to Pressure from Apple, AT&T
TV placeshifting company, Sling Media (note: the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corp.), announced Wednesday that it is now offering a version of its SlingPlayer Mobile application (allows users to watch their home TV service and DVR-recorded programming remotely on their mobile phone) for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch devices. However, the application, which is priced at $29.99 and available in the iPhone App Store, only works with Wi-Fi and not with the 3G mobile network of AT&T, the only US wireless carrier to offer the iPhone.
Jason Hirschhorn, the former president of Sling Media's Entertainment Group who resigned from that position earlier this year, has been named chief product officer of News Corp.-owned social networking company, MySpace--in what may be a sign of MySpace's growing interest in providing broadband video programming and other digital entertainment content. Prior to joining Sling Media, where he was tasked with, among other things, implementing that company's broadband video entertainment service, Sling.com, Hirschhorn served as chief digital officer at MTV Networks, overseeing the company's digital media businesses, products and strategies.
