Peel Eyes Retail Opportunities with $16.7 Million in Financing

Peel said it is looking at retail opportunities for its wireless device and mobile app, after raising $16.7 million in its second round of funding. 

Lightspeed Venture Partners led the investment in Peel, which makes a free app and a $99 wireless device which allows viewers to control their TVs, cable set-tops and other devices by swiping an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.

Interactive TV and conditional access technology provider, NDS, contacted [itvt] Wednesday to let us know that it has launched an iPhone/iPod touch app for LocateTV, an online programming guide which it operates and which allows users to search for programming on TV, the Web and DVD (note: according to Quantcast figures cited by the company, the site, which launched in October, 2007, reaches over a million people each month in the US and the UK).

Showtime Teams with Transpera on Free, Ad-Supported iPhone/iPod touch Application

Premium programmer, Showtime Networks, launched a free iPhone/iPod touch application, Tuesday, in the Apple App Store. The app, which is powered by mobile video delivery and advertising network provider Transpera, allows users to sample a selection of full episodes and video clips from various Showtime original series, and also allows targeted, dynamic mobile advertising, the company says.
