Due to the large volume of news generated by the recent 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), we are covering stories in this issue in round-up/summary format. DISH Network generated a fair amount of news over the past couple of weeks at CES and beyond. Here is a round-up of recent major announcements from the company:

TV Guide Shops Rich Media Ads for iPhone, iPad and Android Apps

- A&E Touts Stephen King's 'Bag of Bones' on all TV Guide Digital Properties

TV Guide is beginning to pitch media buyers cross-platform ads that can run on TVGuide.com, in addition to rich media ads that it will distribute through apps it has built for Apple's iPhone, iPad and mobile phones running Google's Android platform. 

Looking to drive viewers to the premiere last weekend of its Bag of Bones miniseries, A&E was the first sponsor to buy what TV Guide described as a "cross-platform morph overlay execution." A&E ran ads on all of TV Guide's digital properties, and it also transformed the TV Guide logo as part of an ad that took over its home page. 

Time Warner Cable Launches TWC TV App for Android Tablets

-- App Turns Tablet into Remote Control; but doesn't Support Live Streaming


Time Warner Cable launched an app Tuesday that lets subscribers with the Samsung Galaxy or Motorola Xoom tablets to use the devices as a remote control and to set remote DVR recordings. But its TWC TV app doesn't allow subscribers to watch live video on the tablets – a feature the cable MSO already offers through apps it has developed for Apple's iPad and iPhone. 

Time Warner Cable said the app is designed to work on any tablet that runs the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform.

FX Cashes in on 'Sons of Anarchy' Buzz with T-commerce iPad App

-- Companion App Lets Viewers Buy Clothing Worn by Cast Members

FX may be the first cable network to make tcommerce the focus of a companion app for a TV series, building an app for Apple's iPad that allows fans of hit program Sons of Anarchy to buy jewelry, clothing worn by cast members and other merchandise. 

The "SOA Gear" app is scheduled to launch Nov. 1, coinciding with the debut of episode nine of the FX show. The app uses automatic content (ACR) technology to deliver content to the iPad that is synched with the broadcast, showing viewers which products that are available in various scenes. 

Viewers that buy Sons of Anarchy Blu-ray discs will also be able to watch content that is synched to the program, thanks to BD-Live technology. 

Redesigned iPad app for The Weather Channel Features interactive 3D images

The Weather Channel launched a major upgrade for its app for the iPad, adding a 3D interactive globe with a spinning map view that allows users to track weather at various locations around the world.

The app, which was ranked Friday afternoon as the 12th most popular free app at Apple's iTunes Store, allows users to save up to 10 favorite locations. Users with an iPad 2 will see 3D background images on their home screen change to match local conditions. The app also contains a section with HD video submitted by users, in addition to video from programs on The Weather Channel.
