Content security specialist, Verimatrix, said Tuesday that it has teamed with Santiago, Chile-based systems integrator, I-Systems, to deploy a hybrid DVB-C/IPTV system for Chilean operator, Gtd Manquehue. According to the company, I-Systems is using its Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for DVB as part of a digital TV platform that includes middleware and VOD servers from GoBackTV and hybrid set-top boxes from Xavi.

At the NAB show in Las Vegas, Monday, Cork, Ireland-based digital TV technology provider, Digisoft, announced the general availability of its DigiHost Service Delivery Platform and Java-based middleware for the delivery of advanced, hybrid DVB/IP personalized digital video services. The company says it will be demo'ing the solutions, together with various "revenue-generating" applications and services, in the NAB's Destination Broadband Pavilion (Upper South Hall, Booth SU9506D).

Since February 3rd, [itvt] Daily News has been on hiatus, while the [itvt] editorial team produced the TV of Tomorrow Show 2010--and then took a few days off to recover. This is the third of eight round-up articles, in which we are covering some of the more significant developments in the multiplatform/interactive TV space that took place during our hiatus:
Helsinki-based interactive TV company, Icareus (note: the company's offerings include a range of authoring and delivery solutions for MHP, OCAP/tru2way, MHEG and other platforms, as well as an extensive catalog of off-the-shelf interactive TV games and other applications), contacted [itvt] last week to let us know that it has delivered a range of interactive TV solutions to Bruneian national broadcaster, Radio Television Brunei (RTB). The broadcaster--which operates five digital TV channels, RTB 1 and RTB 2 (simulcast), RTB 3 (HD), RTB 4 (international) and RTB 5, as well as five radio networks--is using the solutions to power MHP-based interactive TV services.

The Open IPTV Forum (OIPF)--an industry group that is attempting to bring together telcos, consumer electronics manufacturers, and network infrastructure providers, in order to develop specifications for an open, end-to-end solution that will facilitate development and deployment of interactive, personalized IPTV services (note: the organization, whose founding members include Ericsson, FT Group, Nokia Siemens, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Telecom Italia, recently published the Architecture Specification for IPTV infrastructure elements and services to be included in Release 2 of its OIPF Specifications--see the article published on itvt.com, September 8th--and also recently published the Profi
--MHP Now References GEM, Rather than Vice Versa
International digital TV standards consortium, the DVB Project, announced Tuesday that the 80th meeting of its DVB Technical Module has "re-factored" the GEM and MHP specifications, in order to change the order of referencing between the specs, with MHP now referencing GEM rather than vice versa. The diagram below shows the relationships between the DVB Project's various GEM-related documents after the re-factoring (note: the green arrow between GEM and MHP designates the new order of referencing).
--Organization Says it May Work on Standardizing Internet TV Technology for CE Devices
The DVB Project, an international standards consortium comprised of around 280 broadcasters, network operators, vendors, regulatory bodies and other TV industry players, announced Monday that it has begun a "study mission" on Internet TV content delivery, that will investigate technology options for delivering what it describes as "DVB-type content" over the Internet to a broad range of consumer electronics devices, including game consoles, mobile devices and PC's. While the study mission will focus primarily on content delivery, the DVB says, it will also explore other aspects of Internet TV delivery, including codecs, security and metadata.
