Immersive Media Powers 360-Degree Interactivity for CBC, iClips Network, MapQuest

Immersive Media, a Calgary, Alberta-based company which has developed a patented technology, dubbed imLIVE, that enables viewer-controlled, 360-degree, live, full-motion, interactive video experiences (note: the experience of watching video powered by the technology is akin to watching a video version of Google Street View), said Tuesday that it has added three high-profile companies--CBC/Radio-Canada, iClips Network and MapQuest--to its customer roster.

Current Media--the company founded by former vice president, Al Gore, and his business partner, Joel Hyatt, that operates Current TV, an interactive TV channel that has hitherto been devoted to short-form informational programs, dubbed "pods," around 30% of which are contributed by viewers via its Web site (note: the channel, whose distribution partners include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon, AT&T, BSkyB, Virgin Media, and Sky Italia, also invites viewers to help determine its programming schedule by voting for video submissions on its site)--has put plans to enter the Canadian market on hold, according to a report Tuesday by

Immersive Media--a company which has developed a patented technology, dubbed IM LIVE, that enables viewer-controlled, 360-degree, live, full-motion, interactive video experiences (note: the experience of watching video powered by the technology is akin to watching a video version of Google Street View), and which recently announced a deployment of the technology with Canada's MuchMusic (see the article published on itvt.com, November 9th)--last week announced deployments with CBC/Radio-Canada and with MTV Networks.
