--Lovefilm App Now Available for Samsung Blu-ray Players in UK
A Polish start-up called zubibu has launched a shopping cart-style tcommerce application for connected-TV devices. Dubbed zubibu@TV, the app will initially be available--a few weeks from now--free of charge in the Samsung Apps store, for Samsung TV sets and Blu-ray players equipped with the CE manufacturer's Internet@TV platform.
Oslo, Norway-based browser specialist, Opera Software, said Wednesday that it has secured a deal with Sony to deploy its browser on the latter's Bravia television sets and Blu-ray Disc players. The company says that it aims to "deliver more 'lean-forward,' interactive components to connected home users" by offering its browser on the Sony devices.
--Funai Manufactures Connected TV's and Blu-ray Players for Philips, Emerson, Magnavox and Sylvania
Cloud-based interactive TV specialist, ActiveVideo Networks, whose customers include New York-area MSO Cablevision, has racked up its first major customer win in the consumer electronics/OTT space--a market that it has been targeting for some time now. The company said Tuesday that it has signed a deal with Funai Electric that will make the latter the first consumer electronics manufacturer to bring interactive TV solutions, based entirely in the network cloud, to connected-TV devices. Funai manufactures TV's and Blu-ray players that are sold under the Philips, Emerson, Magnavox and Sylvania brands.

--Solution Billed as Providing Cable with a "Counter Offer" to Direct-to-Consumer OTT Services
Clearleap, a company which offers a cloud-based content management, delivery and advertising platform for bringing Internet-sourced video content to television sets, and Related Content Database (RCDb), a company which offers a software platform that it bills as enabling customers to rapidly integrate and deploy a range of Web services to managed-network set-top boxes, connected TV's and Blu-ray discs and players, said Tuesday that they have developed a joint solution that will allow pay-TV operators to deliver their full VOD libraries to any subscriber equipped with an Internet-connected Blu-ray player. The companies unveiled the solution at the CableLabs Summer Conference, which is taking place this week in Keystone, CO.
