At the ANGA Cable show in Cologne, Tuesday, ActiveVideo Networks announced that it has reached an agreement to buy Avinity Systems, a smaller Dutch company whose platform offers similar capabilities to ActiveVideo's own--though through technologies which ActiveVideo claims are largely "complementary" rather than duplicative. ActiveVideo is billing the acquisition as "bringing together the two leading providers of cloud-based interactive TV platforms and applications, and expanding the reach and availability of the Web-based user experiences that are redefining interactive television." (Note: for more on the acquisition, see the story posted today on [itvt]'s new daily news Web site.)
In this recorded episode of [itvt]'s talk radio show, "The TV of Tomorrow Show with Tracy Swedlow," ActiveVideo Networks president and CEO, Jeff Miller, and Avinity Systems director, Ronald Brockmann (who will become managing director of ActiveVideo Networks Europe), discuss the acquisition and its significance. Topics covered include the similarities and differences between the two companies' technologies; how ActiveVideo believes it will benefit from Avinity's expertise in the European market (for example, with technologies such as CI+); ActiveVideo's product roadmap; and much more.
