New York-area MSO, Cablevision, has launched an interactive TV subscription channel for Newsday, the Long Island newspaper that it acquired earlier this year. The channel, dubbed "Newsday TV" and located on channel 611, allows Long Island customers of Cablevision's iO TV digital cable service to instantly subscribe to the newspaper, using an on-screen order form that is already populated with each customer's name and address. It features both seven-day and weekend delivery options, as well as promotional information on the paper's various sections and benefits. It also features long-form videos of a number of recent Newsday stories and information on the paper's "Newsday Insider" benefit program for subscribers. "We're pleased to make it easier than ever before for our cable television customers on Long Island to subscribe to Long Island's daily newspaper, Newsday, through the launch of Newsday TV," John Trierweiler, Cablevision's SVP of product management, said in a prepared statement. "With an on-screen subscription form that is pre-populated for each customer by virtue of our ongoing relationship, our customers can complete a transaction and subscribe to Newsday's award-winning coverage with just a few clicks of the television remote control."
Cablevision is promoting the new channel through commercials, on-screen banners and other marketing tactics. When viewers hit the channel's "subscribe" button, they are taken to a form that includes their name, street address, town, zip code and phone number, and a drop-down menu from which to select whichever subscription option they prefer.
