--Taps NAVTEQ for FiOS TV Traffic Widget

Verizon's FiOS TV service has teamed with ESPN on an interactive TV
fantasy sports application that provides viewers with scores and
statistics for their fantasy teams, updated in real time. According to
Verizon's director of interactive TV, Rachelle Zoffer, the application
was developed internally, is rolling out on a market-by-market basis, is
currently in around half of Verizon's FiOS TV markets, and should be
available nationwide shortly. "It's been getting great usage--especially
on Sunday game days," Zoffer told [itvt]. Video of the application is
available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW7YDhq5CVg.
In related news: NAVTEQ, a provider of digital map information for
in-car navigation systems, mobile navigation devices and other
applications, says that it has become the new provider for FiOS TV's
interactive TV traffic widget. The latter is a free, 24/7 application, that
FiOS TV subscribers can pull up on their TV screens using their remote
control and that provides automatically updated real-time traffic
information for their area (note: FiOS TV also offers widgets that
provide news, weather, horoscopes and other information). "We are
expanding our relationship with Verizon and enhancing the innovative
platforms with which they reach their customers," NAVTEQ EVP, Jeff
Mize, said in a prepared statement. "This fast and convenient one-touch
access to our real-time traffic information will help FiOS TV customers
plan the best routes before they leave the house, potentially saving
them time, gas and aggravation."
