VOD technology provider, SeaChange International, says that its
wholly owned subsidiary, On Demand Group (ODG), has been tapped
to provide an outsourced VOD solution to Greece's largest telco,
Hellenic Telecommunication Organisation (note: the latter, generally
referred to by its Greek acronym, OTE, maintains 5 million fixed lines
and has around 700,000 broadband customers). OTE is planning to roll
out VOD services as part of a new IPTV offering. "We are very excited
to be working with OTE on its forthcoming VOD service in Greece,"
ODG managing director, Tony Kelly, said in a prepared statement.
"This deal with OTE meets our topline objective of expanding our
business into new markets. It demonstrates our core competency of
being able to bring compelling content services to market rapidly to
give the operator maximum leverage over competition, and also utilizes
our world-leading skills for driving on-demand penetration and usage."
ODG provides VOD content-aggregation and management services to a
number of high-profile European customers, including UK cable
operator, Virgin Media (whose VOD service, which is currently
available in around 3.2 million households, is said to generate over 36
million views a month, making it the largest such service outside the
US), Kabel Deutschland, Unity Media and Telekom Austria. It is
currently looking to expand its presence in continental Europe,
particularly in the Spanish, Italian, German and Austrian markets.
