Wireless carrier, Helio, has tapped white-label broadband and mobile video publishing software company, thePlatform, to aggregate and manage its portfolio of mobile video content (includes content from such partners as MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Speed Channel, ABC and Fox Mobile). The deal between the companies will give Helio's line-up of content providers access to thePlatform's system for uploading, scheduling and managing video. "Helio is on the cutting-edge of delivering compelling multimedia experiences to mobile consumers," thePlatform CEO, Ian Blaine, said in a prepared statement. "As such, they needed a simple and proven way to receive and manage video from dozens of content providers for delivery to consumers. We're very pleased to be supporting their efforts."
thePlatform offers services both to wireless carriers/MVNO's and to mobile content providers. For the former, it serves as a centralized aggregator for managing content: it provides digital music and video management and publishing services, which it says enable service providers to receive and manage files from multiple content partners. In addition to Helio, it manages the backend video platform for Verizon Wireless's V Cast service, and Amp'd Mobile's music and video services. For mobile content providers, meanwhile, it serves as a centralized distributor, pushing content to multiple mobile carriers simultaneously. According to the company, its "mpsConnect" service allows content owners to upload a digital media file once, instead of having to work through each carrier's different requirements: the company says that it automatically formats the files to meet the specific requirements of each carrier and its different handsets.
