The Recording Academy is teaming with CBS and Yahoo! Music on a user-generated video contest called "My Grammy Moment." The partners are inviting unsigned recording artists to upload videos of themselves to Yahoo! Music for a chance to perform live with pop star, Justin Timberlake, at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on February 11th. In order to participate, performers must be 18 years of age or older and US residents, and must have never been signed to a record label. Their video must be of themselves performing a cover of one of nine Grammy-winning songs that have been specified by the Academy. The deadline for submitting a video is January 3rd (note: submitted videos have been available for viewing on CBS.com since December 18th). Once the deadline has passed, a "blue ribbon committee" will choose 12 quarter-finalists, and the public will then be able to vote for their favorites on Yahoo! Music. Five semi-finalists will be announced on January 16th; voting will continue, and three finalists will be announced on Super Bowl Weekend. The three finalists will each rehearse with Timberlake during the week leading up to the Grammy Awards. Viewers will then be able to vote for the winner until 10:00PM during the February 11th broadcast itself, either by text message or by going to CBS.com. Then, the Recording Academy says, "the final performer will be announced as the world watches and will join the stage for the ultimate Grammy moment with Justin Timberlake."
