SES Americom says that it has signed transport agreements for its IP-PRIME IPTV distribution service with MTV Networks, Scripps Networks, The Weather Channel, Fox News Channel, and a number of other TV and music networks. Altogether, the new agreements will add 80 TV channels and over 90 audio channels to IP-PRIME's channel line-up, including MTV Networks' VH-1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Spike TV, MHD and TV Land; BET Networks' BET and BET J; all Scripps Networks' channels, including HGTV-HD and Food Network HD; Fox News; Oxygen; Ovation; Family Net; Lime; Jewelry TV; Outdoor Channel; SiTV; Music Choice's channels; the Sportsman Channel; GSN; and Trinity Broadcasting's channels.
IP-PRIME, which is scheduled to launch early next year, is billed by SES Americom as enabling telcos and other broadband service operators in the US to deliver a full line-up of high-quality programming securely and cost-effectively. According to the company, it offers a fully managed solution that now includes 290 channels--secured by Harmonic's ProCipher encryption technology--and that is delivered from SES Americom's IPTV Broadcast Center in Vernon Valley, New Jersey, and then transported over the AMC-9 satellite to headends at telcos' central offices. SES Americom says that IP-PRIME's open architecture also allows programmers to securely distribute programming directly to telcos and service providers.
