Dallas Texas-based BIAP Systems (note: the company, whose name is an acronym for "Broadband Interactive Applications," was founded in 1998 by a group of former NASA scientists who had met while working on the Space Station; it recently completed a $20 million funding round--see [itvt] Issue 6.96 Part 2) has appointed advertising sales veteran, Craig Olive, as SVP of advertising sales. A company representative told [itvt] that the appointment anticipates "BIAP's launching some ad-driven applications." Olive will be based in the company's Dallas headquarters, and will report directly to its president, John Gregoire. He will be tasked with building BIAP's interactive TV advertising sales team, working with advertisers and their agencies around the US, and interfacing with the ad sales divisions of companies that are deploying BIAP's technology. "There is no other person that we know of with such a perfect combination of skill sets for selling interactive television ads," Gregoire said in a prepared statement. "Craig has experience in interactive television, local ad sales, Internet sales both national and local, as well as more traditional media experience. He is the perfect person to build our sales force, an undertaking he has accomplished successfully in the past. His experience will guide us as ITV grows and provides advertisers with new and exciting opportunities to reach their customers on a one-to-one basis." Olive previously worked at Clear Channel Communications. He also worked at AOL, where, according to BIAP, he helped build that company's sales organization; at Source Media, where he focused on ITV and telephony sales; and at Emmis Communications. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky.
