Plainview, New York-based NeuLion, which specializes in enabling the delivery of Internet TV content to television sets, says that Africast TV has chosen its broadband/IPTV platform and broadband modem to deliver its service. Africast TV is scheduled to launch next month and will provide a range of African programming to African ex-patriots around the world (as well as to African diaspora communities, such as African-Americans in the US) both on a subscription and a pay-per-view basis (note: in the US, a monthly subscription will cost $19.95). The service will aggregate major TV channels from Africa (it plans to roll out 30 such channels over the next few months), as well as offering popular African movies and TV programs on-demand. Users of the service will be able to use a special remote control from Neulion to pause, fast-forward, rewind and bookmark programming. "Africast TV delivers live news, sports, and entertainment to consumers directly from a fast-growing network of local broadcasters in African countries," Africast chairman and CEO, John Sarpong, said in a prepared statement. "We have secured exclusive agreements for live broadcasts from over 30 TV channels in 25 African countries and are negotiating with many more."
