The Sci Fi Channel and the Sundance Channel (note: the latter was founded by movie star and indie film advocate, Robert Redford) are teaming on a user-generated video competition. Dubbed "Exposure," the eight-week competition sees the channels inviting independent and amateur filmmakers to submit two- to eight-minute sci-fi, horror or fantasy short films on their Web sites (http://www.scifi.com/exposure and http://www.sundancechannel.com/exposure). The films will first be judged by a committee of experts empanelled by the two channels: each week, the experts will select a number of the films to be showcased on the two channels' Web sites; visitors to the sites will then be invited to vote to determine a weekly winner--thus determining eight finalists. The eight finalists will then be featured in an on-air special which will be broadcast on the Sci Fi Channel, and viewers will be invited to vote online to determine the competition's grand prizewinner. The winner will receive a trip to New York City to pitch a project to the Sci Fi Channel's Pictures Group. Submissions are being accepted through November 20th, and online voting will run from October 23rd through December 17th. "'Exposure' is the perfect way to harness the new movement of ordinary people creating extraordinary videos for the Web, and it also lets us harness the most knowledgeable people on the planet--Sci Fi Channel and Sundance Channel viewers--to help us find the best filmmakers out there," Craig Engler, SVP of SciFi.com and Sci Fi Magazine, said in a prepared statement. "We couldn't ask for a better partner than Sundance Channel to help make an independent filmmaker's dream become a reality."
