Portland, Oregon-based interactive TV authoring solutions provider, Ensequence, and home-shopping channel, QVC UK, have signed a software licensing and services agreement that will see QVC offering its viewers a revamped version of its interactive TV shopping (tcommerce) service, QVC Active, on the Sky satellite platform. (Note: QVC has offered an interactive TV shopping service on Sky since 2000.) Under the terms of the deal--which sees QVC purchasing licenses for Ensequence's on-Q Create authoring suite and its on-Q Air playout management suite, and which will also see Ensequence providing QVC with systems integration and professional services support--QVC will use Ensequence's software and services to develop and deliver the new version of QVC Active. According to Ensequence, its software will allow QVC to change the "shop window" of its service to suit the products currently on offer: QVC's interactive team will be able to quickly update and modify product details and synchronize them to video content on a daily or even hourly basis, the company says, and viewers will be able to complete purchases easily, using their remote controls. "We closely evaluated the interactive TV technologies available, and in our opinion Ensequence clearly has the most appropriate technology for authoring, broadcasting and controlling QVC's on-air interactive TV applications," Richard Burrell, QVC UK's director of engineering and new media, said in a prepared statement. "Ensequence on-Q software will deliver greater control of our interactive TV service on Sky Digital, give us the ability to make changes quickly and promote our product range more efficiently. For this substantial integration project, Ensequence offered the best technical solution. We are tremendously impressed with the Ensequence team, both in London and North America, and we look forward to working together to bring new interactive shopping experiences to TV viewers on Sky."
