Dutch telco, KPN, has launched an IPTV service based on Siemens' SURPASS end-to-end, open-architecture, multivendor IPTV solution. Dubbed "Mine," the service, which Siemens also integrated, allows KPN customers to replay programs from the Netherlands' three public TV channels for up to 10 days after they have been broadcast. They can also record up to 100 hours of programs on a PVR supplied via the operating network, and access a wide selection of feature films on-demand. According to Siemens, KPN plans to offer various interactive TV applications on the new IPTV service, including an interactive channel that will be provided by the Netherlands' three largest football teams, Ajax, Feyernoord and PSV. Siemens says it has provided KPN with a complete turnkey IPTV solution, including management systems for all applications, DRM and uniform subscriber management. SURPASS's middleware component is provided by Myrio, the Seattle-based company which Siemens acquired last year.
