BBC Provides Usage Stats for World Cup Interactive Services

The BBC has provided [itvt] with some usage figures for the interactive/on-demand services it offered to complement its linear coverage of the recent soccer World Cup:

  • It says that 5.3 million viewers (an average of 388,000 viewers per day) accessed its World Cup red-button interactive TV service. (Note: by way of comparison, the ITV application the BBC offered in association with the 2004 Olympics attracted 9 million viewers and the app it offered in association with the 2002 World Cup attracted 4 million viewers.)
  • It says that 1.7 million people watched the live broadband video coverage of the World Cup that it provided on its Web site.
  • It says that its World Cup Web site attracted 20 million unique users and generated 200 million page impressions.

(Note: the figures for the BBC's World Cup Web site and for its live broadband video coverage represent usage only through the end of June.)
