BitBand, Latens, Minerva in IPTV Partnership Targeting Indie Telcos

BitBand, Latens Systems and Minerva Networks say that they have integrated their respective technologies to provide an IPTV solution targeted at independent telcos. The solution consists of BitBand's Vision Servers and Maestro video delivery management suite, Latens' FCAS content protection technology, and Minerva's iTV Manager middleware and applications platform. The companies say that the solution will minimize IPTV deployment risks and time-to-market, while providing a high-quality interactive TV viewing experience.

According to BitBand, its Vision appliance servers are designed from the ground up to stream on-demand, high-quality rich media to end-users over IP. The servers are available in what the company terms "flexible building blocks," purposed and benchmarked for such applications as VOD streaming, nPVR record and forward, and pause-live-TV record and stream. The company claims that the servers are integrated with technologies from a broad array of CA/DRM vendors, set-top box manufacturers, encoder providers, and IPTV middleware providers. BitBand's Maestro, meanwhile, is designed to enable service providers to manage their content in large, geographically distributed networks of servers, and is intended to complement the company's Vision servers to provide a complete video delivery solution. BitBand says that it interfaces with other service provider systems such as IPTV middleware, and AAA and asset management systems. Latens touts its FCAS as a modular system that contains multiple upgrade options, so that operators can increase their conditional access functionality as and when required. The company says that this modular approach allows operators to select only those conditional access components that are necessary for their business, and to upgrade their systems without disruption to their existing services. Minerva's iTVManager features a variety of applications, including an EPG, VOD, subscription VOD, caller ID, and PVR, and also provides a broad set of backoffice tools.
