BBC's Winter Olympics Interactive TV Service Accessed by 3.9 Million

The BBC says that the interactive TV service that accompanied its coverage of the Winter Olympics was accessed by 3.9 million digital satellite viewers, making it the fourth most used application from BBC Sport to date (note: the 2004 Summer Olympics app was accessed by 9 million viewers; the 2005 Wimbledon app by 4.4 million; and the 2002 World Cup app by 4 million). The BBC offered around 500 hours of supplemental coverage of the Winter Olympics via interactive TV. Digital satellite and cable viewers could access up to four extra screens of coverage, offering live events and news round-ups, while viewers on the UK's free-to-air digital terrestrial platform, Freeview, could access two extra screens of coverage. The Winter Olympics app also featured a digitext service that provided news, results, medals tables, and a viewing planner.
