--Appointments Designed to Fill Gap Left by Steve Shannon's Departure
Broadband VOD company, Akimbo Systems, has hired Jim Bennette as VP of sales and promoted Jim Funk, who was previously VP of product marketing, to VP of marketing. In addition to his current product strategy and management responsibilities, Funk will now also be in charge of marketing communications, PR and what the company describes as "all demand-generation activities." Both Bennette and Funk will report to Akimbo CEO, Goldman. In their new roles, the pair will be filling the gap left by Akimbo founder, Steve Shannon, who was previously in charge of sales and marketing, and who has left the company to join Gemstar-TV Guide's new cross-platform Product Development and Technology group (for more on the latter, see article in this issue).
According to Akimbo, Bennette has over 18 years of executive-level business development and sales experience in mobile/wireless media, embedded software and enterprise applications. He joins the company from Orb Networks, where he was VP of business development. While at Orb, he was responsible for content strategy development, and, Akimbo says, built critical content and distribution partnerships with major content creators, including broadcasters, networks, studios, VOD companies and digital music and digital photo providers. Prior to that, he was VP of western region sales at business intelligence applications developer, AIM Technology. His resume also includes stints as a sales executive at Euclid Networks, E-Color and DeltaPoint.
