Interactive TV playout carousel provider, Softel-USA, says that it has demonstrated DOCSIS Set-Top Gateway (DSG) delivery via GigE direct to Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) signaling. This will allow the delivery of firmware upgrades and interactive TV applications and content to OCAP set-top boxes over MSOs' existing high-speed data networks. Softel-USA says that requests from MSOs led it to develop the technology ahead of the official DSG specification. However, the company--which participated at the OCAP Interop event which US cable-industry research-and-development organization, CableLabs, held last November--says that it is actively involved with CableLabs to help create the final DSG specification. "In response to requests from our clients, we have proved to several operators that [Softel-USA's flagship] MediaSphere carousels may now be sent over IP data networks," Softel-USA president and CEO, Sam Pemberton, said in a prepared statement. "We are very excited about this innovative approach that will help accelerate our clients' ability to roll out full, one-screen interactivity with a nationwide footprint."
