AOL, which last week announced that it would launch a broadband TV programming service, dubbed In2TV, in partnership with Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution (see article in this issue), will today begin offering the TBS comedy special, "Earth to America," on-demand free-of-charge on its Web portal. The special--which was created by Laurie David (wife of "Seinfeld" co-creator, Larry David), and which stars an impressive line-up of high-profile comedians (e.g. Jason Alexander, Jack Black, Rob Corddry, Cedric The Entertainer, Bill Maher and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and other celebrities (e.g. Leonardo DiCaprio, Dustin Hoffman and Conan O'Brien)--is intended to raise awareness of environmental issues. It aired on TBS last night.
The broadband VOD version of the special, which will be available at http://www.aol.com/comedy through the end of the year, includes material that was not used in the broadcast version, and is also divided into segments, so that viewers can go directly to the acts and performers that are of most interest to them. AOL says it also plans to provide on-demand performances and other highlights from HBO's and AEG Live's inaugural "The Comedy Festival," a three-day event featuring performances from Dave Chappelle, Jon Stewart, George Lopez, Bill Maher, and others (note: "Earth to America" was taped at The Comedy Festival).
