Cablevision is offering customers of its iO: Interactive Optimum digital cable service free, on-demand local election coverage from News 12 Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut and New Jersey. The coverage will be available through News 12 Interactive, which can be accessed via channel 612 or the "Enhanced TV" category of the iO menu guide. According to Cablevision, Long Island residents will be able to access daily VOD updates of News 12's "Island Vote 2005" coverage; Westchester County residents will be able to access debates between the candidates running for Westchester County district attorney and county executive; Connecticut residents will be able to access candidate debates for various elections in the communities of Easton, Fairfield, Orange, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk and Stratford; and New Jersey residents will be able to access that state's November 3rd gubernatorial debate (note: Comcast is also offering on-demand coverage of the New Jersey governor's race--see [itvt] Issue 6.33 Part 3). Local election coverage will be available on-demand within 24 hours of its linear broadcast on News 12. "Since its inception, News 12 has been proud to provide the region's most comprehensive local election coverage, and we are pleased to take full advantage of iO's superior digital technology to make this important information even more accessible to our viewers, on-demand," News 12 president, Patrick Dolan, said in a prepared statement. "Whether on News 12 or through News 12 Interactive, we are committed to bringing our viewers all the information necessary to fully participate in the democratic process and make intelligent and informed decisions in the voting booth on election day."
