Paul Allen-backed interactive TV products and services company, Digeo, has appointed Byron Springer, Jr. as general counsel, effective immediately. Springer, who will report directly to Digeo's new CEO, Mike Fidler, will be responsible for all the company's legal affairs, including corporate governance, intellectual property protection and litigation management. According to Fidler, Digeo decided to hire Springer because "we needed someone who could blend business acumen and marketing savvy with legal expertise."
Springer was most recently VP and associate general counsel at AT&T Wireless Services, where he served as primary legal counsel for the company's wireless data business: according to Digeo, while in that role, he developed and implemented programs supporting the division's business-development, offer-development and product-management teams, including content provider programs, technology contract negotiations, and joint development and joint marketing agreements. He was also responsible for reporting and compliance. Prior to that, he spent a stint as AT&T Wireless's VP and chief counsel of marketing, leading the legal team that supported the division's national consumer and business sales and marketing efforts. Prior to joining AT&T, he was a shareholder and associate at the law firm of Stokes, Eitelbach and Lawrence, PS. He holds a JD from the UCLA School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.
