Canadian set-top box software provider, Espial, says that telecommunications equipment provider, Comtrend, has chosen its Espial Escape browser for its new IPTV triple-play box, the CT-702. The box, which is powered by embedded Linux and the Intel IXP425 chip, is designed to deliver standard- and high-definition linear TV and VOD over the Internet, and also supports VoIP broadband router functions to facilitate home networking. The Escape browser, which Espial says can be easily ported to multiple different chips and readily integrated with any type of middleware, supports HTML and other Web standards, in order to enable service providers to easily develop interactive portal services (those services can be updated remotely) and to offer Internet-over-TV. "Espial Escape is highly portable and is focused on TV feature requirements, including easy customization and a TV-friendly design," Comtrend marketing director, Frank Chuang, said in a prepared statement. "Espial provides a solution that allows carriers to maximize their revenues by creating new interactive portal content services along with Internet on TV--two crucial elements for any telecommunications carrier."
